14. కొన్ని సందర్భములలో కొన్ని పదముల సముదాయము కలిసి adjective పాత్రను ధరించును అని మనము ఇంతక్రితం చదివియున్నాము . ఇప్పుడు ఈ క్రింది జంట వాక్యములను పరిశీలించండి:-

(b) The vizier was a man of great wealth.
2. (a) The magistrate was a kind man.
(b) The magistrate was a man with a kindly nature.

పై జంట వాక్యములలోని మొదటి దానిలో vizier అను పదము Noun Wealthy అనునది Adjective. Noun చేత పేర్కొనబడిన పదము ‘man’. రెండవ వాక్యములో అదే భావమును ఇచ్చుటకు కొన్ని పదముల కలయికను వాడడం జరిగింది. ‘great wealth’ అను సంయుక్త పదము మనకు vizier ఎటువంటి వాడో చెబుతుంది.

ఈ సంయుక్త పదము నామవాచకమయిన ‘man’ అను పదమును ఇంకా విపులంగా వర్ణిస్తుంది. ఇది Adjective చేయుపని. కావున ‘great wealth’ అను సంయుక్త పదమును Adjective Phrase అని అంటారు. Adjective అయిఉన్నపుడు ఒకే word ఉండాలి. Phrase అయినప్పుడు రెండవ word గాని మూడవ word గాని ఉండవచ్చు.

2. ADVERB PHRASES

16. Adjective చేయు పనిని Adjective Phrase ఎలా చేయగలుగుచున్నదో, అదే విధంగా Adverb చేయు పనిని Adverb Phrase కూడా చేయగలుగుచున్నది. ఈ క్రింది జంట వాక్యములను Study చెయ్యండి:-

1. (a) Rama ran quickly. (How?).
(b) Rama ran with great speed. (How?)
2. (a) He answered rudely. (How?)
(b) He answered in a very rude manner. (How?)
3. (a) He does his work carelessly. (How?)
(b) He does his work without any care. (How?)

(b) He is coming at this very moment. (When ?)
5. (a) No such diseases were known then. (When?)
(b) No such diseases were known in those days. (When?)
6. (a) The arrow fell here. (Where ?)

పై జంట వాక్యములలో మొదటి వాక్యములో verb ను modify చేస్తూ single adverb ఉన్నది. రెండవ వాక్యములో అదే విధముగా verb ను modify చేస్తూ Adverb Phrase ఉన్నది. Modify చేయు విధానము ఒకటే.

ఉదాహరణకు, “with great speed” అను పదముల సముదాయమును Adverb Phrase అని
అంటాము. ఈ Adverbial Phrase, “ran” అను verb ను వివరిస్తుంది (qualifies). ఇదే పనిని “quickly” | అను single adjective పదము కూడా చేస్తుంది.
Rama ran with great speed = Rama ran quickly.

(Note): Adverb Phrase modify (అజమాయిషీ చేయుట) చేస్తుంది. Quinine is good for malaria. I have done well on the whole.

17. ఈ క్రింది Adverbs ను Adverb Phrases ను study చెయ్యండి. రెంటి యొక్క భావార్ధము ఒకటే.

అభ్యాసము 17

Adverb Phrases ను ఉపయోగించుచూ 5 వాక్యములను రూపొందించండి :-

18. ఈ క్రింది వాక్యములను ఒక దానికింకొక దానిని పోల్చి చూడండి:-

1. The crowd in the bazaar was very noisy ..
2. The crowd halted in the bazaar,

మొదటి వాక్యములో ‘in the bazaar’ అను సంయుక్త పదము ఏ గుంపు గోలచేయుచున్నదో చెబుతూంది. అనగా ‘crowd’ అను నామవాచక పదమును వివరిస్తున్నదన్న మాట.

అందువలన అది Adjective Phrase అయి ఉన్నది. Adjective Phrase అనగా కొన్ని మాటల కలయికగా నుండి Noun ను వివరిస్తూ ఉన్నది అని అర్ధము.

రెండవ వాక్యములో ‘in the bazaar’ అను సంయుక్త పదము అ గుంపు ఎక్కడ ఆగినదో చెబుతూంది. గుంపును వివరించడం లేదు. అనగా అది verb అయిన ‘halted’ అను పదమును అజమాయిషీ (modify) చేయుచున్నది.

Verb ను వివరిస్తూ ఉన్నది కావున ఇది Adverb phrase అయి ఉన్నది. అనగా అదే Phrases ఒక వాక్యములో Adjective పాత్రను, రెండవ వాక్యములో Adverb పాత్రను పోషిస్తున్నదని మనము గమనించుచున్నాము.

ఏ phrase ఏ పాత్రను పోషిస్తుందో ముందుగా చెప్పడం కష్టము. అది వాక్యములో చేయు పనిని బట్టి దాని పాత్రను అనగా దాని part of speech రూపాన్ని గుర్తించవలయును.

ఈ క్రింది Phrases ను (సంయుక్త పదములను) వాక్యములలో ఉపయోగించండి :-

3. Noun(Phrases)

19. ఈ క్రింది వాక్యములను పరిశీలించండి:-
1. The boy wants something.
2. The boy wants to go home.

1వ వాక్యములో ‘something’ అను పదము నామవాచకమై ఉండి ‘wants’ అను క్రియా పదమునకు Object (కర్మ పదము) గానున్నది. అదే విధముగా 2వ వాక్యములో group of words గానున్న ‘to go home’ అను phrase క్రియా పదమైన ‘wants’ కు Object గా నున్నది. ఈ group of words ఈ విధముగా నామవాచకము యొక్క బాధ్యతను చేపట్టినవి.

కావున ‘to go home’ అను phrase Noun Phrase అయి ఉన్నది. మొదటి వాక్యములో నున్నది నామవాచక పదము. రెండవ వాక్యములో నున్నది నామవాచక పదజాలము (Phrase).

నిర్వచనం (Def): Noun Phrase అనగా కొన్ని పదముల కలయికగా నుండి, Noun యొక్క బాధ్యత (action) ను చేపట్టినట్టిది అని అర్ధము.
